What Are Essential Oils?
Essential Oils are highly potent and concentrated, volatile plant extracts. They're the essence or flavor of a plant. Each oil has unique aromatic characteristics. They're the gifts of mother nature. Essential Oils have a lot of therapeutic and medicinal benefits. They are the plants magic potion.
Essential Oils are not just the scent of a plant, they give plants immunity, protect them in tough conditions and help in pollination, among other great functions and benefits.
Most commonly, Essential Oils are extracted through distillation using steam and/or water. They're also extracted via mechanical methods, solvent extraction and cold pressing. Typically oils are extracted from most aromatic parts of a plant. For example, Cedarwood Oil is produced from the foliage, and sometimes the wood, roots, and stumps which have been left after cutting of trees for timber extraction. Citrus oils are extracted from the peel or rind of the fruit.
How Do Essential Oils Work?
Because essential oils are all-natural, it might be easy to assume that they're gentle and largely un-reactive. This isn't the case at all. By definition, Essential Oils are highly concentrated and potent plant extracts.

Inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell, and long-term memory. The limbic system plays a major role in the forming of memories.
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain.
When essential oils are applied for cosmetic reasons or to treat aches and pains, the compounds are absorbed into the skin and eventually enter the bloodstream before they’re metabolized by the liver.
